However DFB Eleven reached Final against Brazil, the first World Cup meeting between the two. Germany lost 0–2 thanks to two Ronaldo goals. Nevertheless, captain Oliver Kahn won the Golden Ball, the first time that a goalkeeper was named the best player of the tournament!
